Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano 7700

I am currently using new 9 speed ultegra on my bike, with some Dura ace (crank/cassette). I have the opportunity to buy some used Dura ace 7700 - bifters, RD and brakes - all are in good working condition with only cosmetic blemishes.

1. I have offered $300. - is this fair?
2. Will I notice the difference? (NOS Ultegra v used Dura ace (4 yrs old)) I figured the weight difference is about 170 grams and I am trying to get my bikes weight below 16 pds for no good reason.
3. These parts were very briefly owned by a cyclist that has worn the yellow jersey in the T de F, as I am buying them from his son - should this influence my thinking? (Kind of an obscure novelty factor is at play here)

A quick check on eBay completed listings;

Brifters - $150 - $180
Brakes - $80 - $90
RDeraileur - $50 - $60

1. So $300 is a fair deal depending on condition. Above prices did not include shipping.
2. Difference in shifting performance would be slight. The DA may shift smoother because it has been broken in more than the new Ultegra. It may be sloppy if there are too many shifts on them.
3. If anything, former Pro components should deter you from buying. Pros put on +/- 20 000 miles / year

exchange rate. US100 = C116

honestly, I wouldn't even bother unless the shifters are broken.
