Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opinion on bar tape color...

I've decided it's time to spiff up the bike a bit. I have been thinking the black tape needs to go. I was thinking gray or white tape, but can't decide what would look the best. What do you think and what brand would you choose?

white will turn into grey and grey will turn into black.

it's all silver/black anyways, add a colour from the rainbow.

Match the saddle as best you can. Anything else just looks funny.

I went from white to black because I got sick and tired of cleaning white. And I even wear gloves on every ride. White looks really good when clean, so enjoy it before those first few rides when you can.

To this day, my favorite is that cheesey looking black carbon-like tape. I get the cheap stuff from whomever has it on sale Nashbar, performance, ebay....). The stuff wears like iron, and is easy to clean. I still have my original tape on my commuter and my Ti roadie for trhee years now, and still looks great.

if it were me i would go black again, fixik microtex.

oh - and for the ultimate "spiffing up" - get some clipless pedals and shoes, that'll be a nice upgrade for you.

Whatever color you choose, stick with a solid tape rather than multicolored.

If it was my bike I'd pick Deda gray because I think that white looks a little too stark. But you know what? There's only one person in the whole world that bike has to make happy so suit yourself. If, after a period of time you decide you don't like it anymore, strip it off and get something else. Handlebar tape is a cheap way to change the look of your bike.

+1

I actually think that black looks great with this bike because of the cool paint job, and Microtex is awesome. Maybe you can find a similar type of tape that's black with a thin white seam in the middle (I know I've seen black with a red seam).

black.

i had this great idea to get the cinelli black/grey/white for my brushed aluminum caad8. it sounded great and visualizing it in my head it looked great too. I got it, opened the package and honestly said to myself, "what the hell was i thinking?". I then sold it and will always run black tape.

^^^ Fail. As the owner of two Bianchi's, I love my Celeste. I've got lots of it on both bikes with my bar tape (Fizik), keirin grips (Champs), bottle cages (Elite), saddle (Fizik), and cable housing (Jagwire). But you can't just go slapping Celeste on a non-Bianchi, and particularly with no other matching stuff.

OP: I say chrome.

Black or white? I say go with both:

Forté Classic Marble Tape

Then again, I still live in the 80's.
