Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dura Ace 7800 Pedals floating everywhere

I have a set of Ultegra SL SPD SL pedals on my road bike, and I have nice, clean, crisp contact with my shoes, with two week old cleats.

I go to do a fixed gear time trial on my Track Pro that's equipped with Dura Ace 7800 (I believe that's what they are, they're the generation of SL's that are more narrow and have the plastic on the bottom), snap in, and a little while down the road, my left leg is floating everywhere like a set of eggbeaters. I thought my cleat came loose, but it was straight and solid.

Is this a typical symptom of these pedals, and is it serviceable? Or should I bite the expensive bullet and get another set of pedals (not what I really want to do)?

Yeah, only the left. I didn't have much chance to check it out last night or today, but I'm going to check it out further tonight.

I got these pedals used on the bike, but I figure they shouldn't be too worn out since it was exclusively used as a track bike...

The black plastic "wear plates" are worn. Replace them. Make sure to get DA ones, the Ultegra version looks similar but won't fit.
