What is the deal with Bees????
I have gotten stung by bees twice in the past couple of weeks on rides.
One was when I was descending down a hill and a bee somehow flew into my semi un-zippered jersey. Bee stung me on my chest.
Today I was rolling towards a stop sign and all of a sudden a bee flew right between my sunglasses and helmet on my left temple. Stung me right away before I had a chance to brush him off.
I haven't gotten stung on any bike rides the past 4 years until these 2 incidents. Anyone else have any issues with getting stung by Bees????

It's summer Or bees just like you.
I wack a bee most every time I ride during the summer. Hate it when descending @ 30 mph with traffic on the left. Luckily not stung yet.

I've never been stung before on a ride. Had some close calls and such, but never stung.
Today on a recovery ride, I was riding with my jersey unzipped a bit when all of a sudden I felt this shooting pain going through my side. It felt like electricity shooting through my sides.
I come home to find a quarter sized area of swelling...

About 2 years ago I got stung 4 times in 4 months. I posted a thread too. I showered before rides but turuns out teh bees are attracted to the deodorant soap.
I gave up showering before rides and haven't been stung since. Of course nobody will ride with me cause I smell like carp, But I haven't been stung since!

Bee sightings? This is great news. Scientists have been worried about shrinking bee populations.
(I've never been bee'd on a ride, though.)

Yep, I was stung on the face a couple of weeks back. First time ever. It must have something to do with Global Warming!

I've got a couple hives myself and have yet to be stung but I do get stung from time to time riding. Unavoidable. You run into them as they are flying along and they get hung up in your jersey or helmet and simply sting because they are defending themselves. Sucks for them because it kills them. Nothing you can do to keep them from stinging either. Well, except not running into them. :-)

Zip up for descents.
When one flies in your helmet, don't stick your hand in there. The bee will sting your hand or your head.. Instead, take off the helmet and use the headband at the back to brush the bee off your head.
I try to keep my mouth closed when I see bees but it's often too late. I've sucked them in twice. Getting your tongue stung is no fun.

i got stung on my knee in a 30 mph paceline on thursday, instinctively started swatting at it and realized my handlebars were shaking with speed wobble and hurried up quick to get back on course, that could have been ugly.

Holes in the bottom of your shoe = great place for a bee to get stuck. A stung toe hurts like ____ inside a bike shoe pedaling home.

Took a quick ride after work tonight; cruising along around 20mph when I spotted a large, fuzzy-yellowish UFO zip right into my path--and promptly smacked into mouth. I swatted immediately, but too late--it got me. 8 miles later I'm posting to this forum with an ice bag nursing the inside of my lower lip.

Yet another reason why everyone should wear full body kevlar suits or bike inside of a massive plastic bubble.
Haven't really seen that many bees around this year, which is surprising, as there always seem to be more and more each year.

i thought bees were dying out and there's a crisis of bee numbers. yet cyclists are being chased by swarms of them.

If they get trapped in your garments they're going to feel threatened so they sting first and ask questions later. It's just a run of bad luck for you.

First time for me last week on a climb. Never saw it enter my helmet and couldn't get the helmet off fast enough before it got me 4 times on the hairline. Thinking about maybe some kind of mesh i could glue to the underside of the helmet to block the vents.
