Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for route suggestions in Fort Myers, FL

This Oklahoma boy is traveling to Fort Myers for the first week of August and I'm bringing my road bike. I will mostly ride in the morning due to family activities (beach, Sanibel, beach). I will be staying at the Heritage Palms on 6 Mile Cypress between Colonial and Daniels. I would prefer to bike from the condo. I looked at a few map my rides but they are lacking descriptions. I am looking anywhere between 30 -60 miles for time sake. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Sanibel and Captiva Islands are good for riding. Spent a week there with my road bike. As far as Fort Meyers area, check for local bike shops - they can usually provide good roads in the area.

The local riding club, (Caloosa riders, iirc) has a few routes on their website.

Most seem to be east of Ft Myers, in the Lehigh Acres area.

are you looking for group ride? Or just good roads. We have both...theres a group ride about 10 miles from where youre staying. And theres are nice roads with bike lanes minutes from your door. When you get to town you can pm me and I'll give you direction.

I'm in Lehigh which isn't far from FM. Unless I'm mistaken 6 Mile Cypress has a paved bike path along the whole length. If you check out the caloosa riders web site they have bike routes and if you email them I'm sure they can give some info on what's in the area you'll be in. 6 mile cypress is a pretty long road too, seems it would be good for biking and some of the major roads that intersect it I think might also have bike lanes or paths. Paradise bikes which is off colonial less than a mile from 6 mi cypress should know the area well enough to give recommendations. Their web site is https://paradisebicycles.net/
Caloosa riders is https://www.caloosariders.com/ Most of their rides leave from the Buckingham area which is maybe 10 mi or so from where you'll be.

There are bike paths that connect Daniels > Summerlin > to Sanibel, but there are tons of cross streets, so don't expect an uninterrupted ride. Sanibel/Captiva also have bike paths, but they can be congested with rec riders and walkers so be careful.

The links already provided should help show the local group rides and contact info. You could go east on Daniels and head towards Gateway and Lehigh Acres, then on the north side of the river thru Alva for a nice rural ride.

And go to the Bubble Room on Captiva for dinner. You will enjoy.

Cool, Thanks to all for your advice. I think group rides will be difficult as I need to back early in the morning to go to the beach with the family.
