700 x 23 tires
i am going to break out my calipers when i get home tonight and check out my assumptions, but what is the correct width of a 23c tire, when measured at the widest point (inflated)?
it seems like there is a pretty wide variation in these tires based simply on inspection - example:
i have gatorskins (wire bead) on my commuter. i also just bought a used bike with conti ultra sports on the wheels. the ultra sports look to be at least a millimeter or two fatter than the gatorskins....
my nice road bike has michy carbons on it, which look to be skinner than them all. is this just odd marketing? do my eyes deceive me? am i out of my mind?
i just ordered new wheels for another bike, i'm pretty certain i'm going with the mechilin carbons, but this width thing has me baffled, shouldnt this just be a standard width?

Tires can have a tall profile or a wide, squat profile.
Expensive tires are often smaller than they claim (the weight weenie race). Contis
are known for this.
Personally, I think bigger is better if you're not racing. I used 27c tires for years and
just loved them.

I've noticed the same, different manufacturers have slightly different standards by which they market and size their products. I prefer the 25's myself, seems like the ride is just nicer.
