Zero G Ti Brakes
Hello...
Just curious on what people think about these [Zero G Ti] vs Dura Ace or Campy or SRAM? I am currently using DA 7800(2006 vintage) and looking to spruce-up my ride. I guess I am getting a bit bored of it but can't quite spring for a new ride yet. Been doing some research and they seem to be a good brake but wanted to get some opinions here first. I see there are some good prices on-line for them. Thanks in advance!

Read Velonews brake test a couple of issues back. You might decide to stay with the Dura Ace brakes.

I hear a LOT of bad stuff about the brakes, mainly that they just do not have the stopping power of a dual cam type brake like Dura-Ace. Most of the time I hear people agree that it's just a poor place to shave weight and/or take aesthetic over performance.
That being said there are a lot of people who argue that they work great when they're set up properly. This makes me wonder how many people just get them, slap them on their bike and when they don't perform they just toss them. I haven't ridden them but this is what I've been told.

I just don't get who these brakes are marketed to, besides obsessive-compulsive weight weenies. Why would you choose something as important as braking to use lighter, but less effective components? If it matters so much what your brakes look like, rather than how they function, you're really not riding enough.
Of course, none of this stuff makes any sense anyways, so never mind... [/pcad]

I have them. Since putting them on my bike at the end of 2006, I have had no problems stopping, and can't really tell a difference between them and the Dura Ace 7700 brakes on my back up/race bike. BTW, I'm 5'10" tall and weigh about 165.
That said, the Dura Ace 7800 brakes, form what I have read, are the standard for braking power. Nothing stops better than them.

All of these boutique brakes are not as great as DA, Record/Chorus or all of SRAM. I fell into the hype and luckily I found a weight weenie who bought it and I lost 10 bucks plus shipping. I think SRAM is the strongest maybe due to their MTB lineage. Yeah I read the manual and tweaked it and put on those Yellow Koolstops. Shimano or SRAm for sure. Campy is always weaker unless you have perfectly true and stiff wheels then you can get them to be as strong as the other 2 by running them closer.

Obviously.... That is why I did the wise thing and went here to ask for some intelligent advice, comments, replys. I didn't make a commitment to buy these things and wanted to get some sage advice. I could lose 5lbs and be ahead of the game. Obviously I would not sacrfice function over form, although some may!

there are better options now than the ZeroG. NegativeG, Ciamillo, EEBrakes, KCNC, TRP R960SL (and the soon-to-be-released R970SL).
