Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

butthurt seat

wheels

19 pounds isn't that bad. You're not going to get too far for $700. You're already got a pretty light set of wheels.

If your saddle is uncomfortable, I'd start there. Get something that will keep you in the saddle longer. Are you running stock cranks? Are they long enough for your size? Maybe you could look at something that's not necessarily a ton lighter, but longer arms to suit you.

As others here have convinced me, and I'm sure they will you too eventually, saving 1lbs off a bike not only makes almost no real benefit performance wise (for the majority of us, me included), but is far easier and cheaper to save from your body weight.

From my recent shopping experiences, $700 will probably get you down to 18.5lbs if you're really lucky. There are people who spent what your entire bike is worth on just components alone, and aren't much bellow 15lbs. Starting with one of the lightest carbon frames (S3), the lightest component group (SR11), and lightest wheels (Edge 1.25), and I'm only down to ~12lbs. A 7lbs and several thousand dollar difference, which for you, would only constitute a difference of 3% total weight. Gram obsession can be a very very expensive addiction.

About the only thing I see there that would be a good upgrade for the money would be the crank. The Tune crank would be stiffer and lighter, and use a modern outboard-bearing bb. At least you'd probably notice the difference. I'm not a big fan of the Specialized seatposts for weight and design, but that's one of those things that really makes little difference. Otherwise it looks like a pretty nice build, which is not easy to put together when you're 6'5".

Just switching to these would probably save you over a pound for only a couple of hundred dollars.

Tires - Schwalbe Ultremo R 180g
Tubes - Forte Lunar Light 52g each
Skewers - KCNC 42g a set
Chain - KMC X10 SL 240g
Saddle - Selle Italia SLR 135g

If you want to spend some more throw on a Thomson Masterpiece and some lightweight brakes.
