Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nice bike, I like the stem. I can't bend over far enough to ride a road bike, haha. What brand is the stem?

the stem isn't that upright, its just the angle of the photo, and i'm not going to flip it because it fits me great right now, I might swap it out later for a more downward/shorter stem

it's a dimension stem

Yeah, because here at BikeForums, how your bike looks is more important than how it feels for you, contrary to the whole "the fastest bike is the bike that fits" thing. If you have anything less than madly aggressive geometry, it means you absolutely MUST be an inexperienced cyclist and are undeserving of any semblance of respect from the community.

Nice bike. Pretty radical rise in the stem, but if it works for you then it works for you.

good lord, that stem! maybe something custom, or at least something with a taller head tube would have been a better choice?

At first glance, I thought maybe you ran that bike into a brick wall at 40mph and bent that stem.

Why get a race bike with race geometry and then do that?

It isn't about how the bike looks, it's a nice looking CAAD. What stands out is the stem which looks inappropriate for a racing bike since the stem rises so much; this indicates that the OP selected a bike that might not be right for him. If that's the set up he's comfortable on that's fine but I would have opted for a bike with a taller head tube like the Synapse; I'm sure his flexibility and fitness will improve but it will be quite a change to go from that stem to one with less rise. Keep in mind that the CAAD has racing geometry (aggressive) so I don't understand why you would get something like that if you need a "comfort" set up. The OP mentioned having strange proportions so perhaps the shop could have helped finding something that would have been a better fit without the strange stem; if it's comfortable that way then enjoy but don't get in a huff because someone points out something that doesn't look right.

That stem is hilarious and looks very short already. Remember, everything shorter than 120mm is not cool

Don't even flip it.... smelt it.

Your LBS needs to get a clue about fits. Because high + short does not equal comfortable. Your bike fit is for a T-Rex.

I am a t-rex. This bike is a 56cm, which is better for me because of shorter reach, but it still provides the correct length for my legs through saddle adjustments, also, I'm in a pretty aggressive position when sitting on it. I have long legs/back but short arms, so if i had the stem any different, I'd be hitting the tip of the saddle with my stomach

Well everyone else might not like your ride, but at least your bike is excited.
