Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

compact double to double?

Pardon if this is a dumb question but I have compact double and was wondering if it would it be as easy as just swapping chain rings to convert it to a double or I would need to buy a new crankset and chain rings? I am currently running a FSA slk light compact double and would like to swap to a double. Thank you in advance!

You might need a different chain depending on the difference in chainring sizes

You may be able to find bigger rings but they are not common and generally best to just get a new crank. As the above poster said you may need a new chain (probably), and you will of course need to adjust your derailer.

Thank you. I will go to some local shops to see if they have chain rings to purchase, if not I guess I will be buying a dura ace double to match the rest of the bike.

The chance of a shop having 52 or 53 and 39 in 110BCD is virtually nil, but you may be able to find some online.

You can get 52/38 FSA chainrings in 110 BCD. The difference in gearing from 53/39 would be neglible.

You might find a little more flex in a 52/ 110BCD, than 53/130BCD, but I don't think it would noticeably affect performance.

You can get TA chainrings in 53/39 in 110BCD. https://harriscyclery.net/itemlist.cf...2&catalogId=39

is the FSA 130mm 39, 53T on their webpage: https://road.fullspeedahead.com/fly.a...duct&taxid=100 compatible? Or since I have a compact double I can only get 110 bcd?

110 BCD = Compact

130 BCD = Standard (shimano)

Chainrings have to match the BCD of the crank.

And if you are using campy it's a whole different ballgame. Apparently their 110BCD compacts have one bolt at 115 so you have to use campy-specific rings. And their standard size is 135 rather than 130...
