Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wooha - new bike ordered!

My initial plan was to ride the c*ap out of my Trek 1.2, the -exact same bike- used by Lance Armstrong to win all those TdFs. But in the end, I simply got sick of dealing with the Sora shifters. I have nice XT clickers on my 2 MTBs and the clumsy and seemingly whimsical nature of the Sora front derailleur was more than I could stand.

I've had my eye on the BMC Streetfire at Competitive for quite a while, but they only ship via UPS, which sucks for me where I am, and so I've been trying to decide if I should just join the sheeple and get a CAAD9-5.

But in the end, I just realized that CC has a Streetfire frameset-only for sale - and this, paired with an SRAM Rival set from Psimet + the Powertap wheels I already have = the same bike for less. And I found a workaround for the UPS for the frameset.

The Streetfire is ordered. The Rival set will get ordered shortly as well. And my Trek is now going to become my rain bike... I'll still be slow as molasses, but that is ok. I'll be slow on a dead sexy bike.

And I just got my first team kit today (Lotto, not too bling). Can leg-shaving be far behind?

congrats on the new bike sounds pretty slick....
but I'm pretty sure that Lance Armstrong has never ridden an entry level bike. let alone raced on one.

I'm not a cycling historian, but I thought when Trek make Lance's bike available to the public they called it the Madone.

He used a 5200 in 1999, variations of the 5900 from 2000-2003 and it became the Madone from 2004 on. He has always been on the highest level OCLV carbon frame, never the bottom-line aluminum frames. OP is full of crap.

Really? Lance Armstrong didnt ride an entry-level Trek with crappy shifters on the TdF? REALLY? Ah, another dream shattered. And here I was, hoping that the entry-level Trek would have made me as fast as Lance.

He's not - that's why he's losing this year. We can all agree that were he riding that piece of technological perfection that is a CAAD9-5, he'd be smoking Contador.

Stating something that is wrong as fact is not sarcasm, it's just incorrect, as I said.

I thought it was very funny from the start. Excellent work.

Earnestly stating something absurd as fact can be humorous. (I got a kick out of it here.)

Of course lots of stuff on bikeforums is humorous because it's amazing the absurd things morons will come up with (and believe). If the OP was trying to be funny by making himself look like an idiot then I guess it worked

That would hyperbole, for those of you playing the home game. Something BF.net has no shortage of.

You have to have your BF laugh meter turned down way low not to appreciate this line. "exact same bike" - that was just comedic gold.

Sometimes, people just post funny stuff and you just have to ready for it.
