Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Phil Ligget seems like a great guy, but

when he calls a 15 mph wind a light breeze, it drives me crazy.

What is a 15mph wind? Light breeze seems like an appropriate description.

Great comeback

Phil is a bit of a legend. 15mph winds, whilst not inconsiderable are far from bad. Talk to me when most of your rides involve a 25mph+ headwind. Seems to be my experience at the moment.

According to this chart (the Beaufort Scale), 15 mph is a Moderate Breeze. 25 mph is a Strong Breeze.

Edit: Took too long to find the original pic, VA Cyclist beat me to it.

15+mph is when you go from "Tapping out a rhythm" to "Dancing on the pedals" over 20mph and you have to "Dance a Tango"

Over 30 mph and you'd better open your "Suitcase of courage"

Would that be the Fred's "Suitcase of courage":

... or the try-athlete's "Pain Cave"?:
