OP/Ultegra, DT Swiss or Williams 30x?
OP/Ultegra, DT Swiss RR1.1, RR1.2, or Williams 30x......what would you be looking at if you were me?
My ride: Raleigh RX 1.0 cyclocross w/ Tiagra & 105 Rear derailleur.
About me: 6'0 195lbs. Thats about max for me. I fluctuate between 185-195lbs and do not want to get any lighter than that. I ride about 50 miles per week for exersize. Just joined a bicycle club so hopefully will add to that. I average 17 mph on my 25 mile loop (red lights included with some small hills) with Alex At400 wheels and 32 Panaracer Tserv commuting tires. I might start trying some biathlons and triathlons soon.
I was thinking about looking at Tarmacs and Caads but have decided to buy a wheelset instead and make due until I start riding with and being competitive with others more.
My needs: A good wheelset for group rides and to make my bike as fast as can be. To be used as "my good wheelset"
Will most likely put 23's or 25's on the new wheelset. I'll exersize and commute with the Alex's & 32's.
I've been doing some research and it seems like all wheelsets I've mentioned are recommended....but I'd like to know whats best for me.
I've checked out Bicycle Warehouse as they have good comments about their builds here and would most likely buy from them.
Please help me out with what options are best as I only know from what I've searched on BF.
Here's what I have so far
Hubs: Front: ?Ultegra 6500 28H radial or 6600 32H 3-cross?
Rear: Ultegra 6600 32 H
Nipples: DT Brass
Spokes: ? DT Champion 2.0?.....should I upgrade?
Since I have 9 speed Tiagra would I be able to switch the rear cassette and use it for a 105 or Dura ace bike I purchase in the future? OR....would I need to change the hub as well to fit that extra cog on the cassette? This answer alone will probly determine if I stick with BW or Williams as I'll be getting a roadie sooner or later and won't want to spend 500 for a wheelset for the "other" bike.
Thx for the help!!

I know a guy with your same dimensions that rides some Williams 30x wheels.
He is very happy with them.

I've been quite happy with my System 30's (non-X version). They've stayed perfectly true through some rough riding, which was one of my main concerns. The wheels won't make you significantly faster, but I did shave a couple hundred grams with the swap.
Customer service is fast, knowledgeable and so far it's been Keith Williams himself on the other end of the emails which is reassuring. For the price, quality and customer service I'd definitely recommend Williams.

Roadie
I've got DT 1.1 with Ultegra hubs. They're good wheels, they've been beat, nasty potholes, rumble strips, horrible roads, etc and they still are perfect. The only downside I've found to them is that if you are riding in a very heavy rain or where there is standing water on the road, they do get water in the rims.

Thanks for the imput guys!
I've since found out that I can use the same rim for a 9 or 10 speed cassette which means now I don't mind spending extra $$ on the wheelset since I will be able to switch it over to my future road bike.
I've asked my LBS for quotes on OP/Ultegra and RR1.1/Ultegra wheelsets...said he'd get back to me.
Sine I have a lifetime maintenance plan there might as well let them build the wheels and maintain them.

As someone you're size, I'm happier with the 1.2 than the 1.1 or open pro.
I can't put my finger on it, but they just have a better feel. Now if they'd only make them in an all-silver with minimal stickers (like the CXP33) I'd be happy.
