Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bike Stolen Need Recommendation on Replacement

Hello, I had a nice Specialized Allez Pro, 58cm stolen and am looking for a comparable replacement.

I need a bang for the buck replacement (any manufacturer OK).

Please recommend model and source of purchase.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure the most common reply will be the Caad9-5

I price bike today at three different stores. To get a Specialized that had the same Ultegra and Dura Ace components of my stolen Specialized would run about $3,000 or $4,000 US. I can't believe how much faster the cost of quality bike has risen over and above inflation in the last 10 years.

But I did find a Carbon fiber Scattante bike, will all Ultegra and Mavic wheels for $!700, with 20% back.

Shouldn't your renter's/homeowner's insurance cover the actual replacement cost of something that was stolen?

yeah, check that. When my MTB was stolen, my insurance covered my new bike. I just needed to give them a copy of police report and that's it.

BTW, That was $1700 I found the Scanttante, not $700. Performance bike in Santa Monica the weekend of Aug 8th and 9th.

Regarding renters insurance, considered claiming it on my policy, but decided against due to adverse long term effect on future homeowners insurance eligibility/rates.

I put a 58cm Scattante Elite on layaway. All Utegra componenets. Lots of bang for the buck compared to what Specialized was offereing.
