Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

shimano ultegra vs. sram force??

which one do you prefer?, which one is better? I am a bit new to biking and am thinking of building a bike with a friend whos dad owns a bike shop. We were thinking about getting a caad9 frame and putting some ultegra components on but I dont know too much about them. Thanks in advance for the newbie help

This MIGHT be helpful... my initial review of 09 Rival vs. Ultegra 6500. I haven't ridden 2010 Ultegra or Force.

I haven't ridden Ultegra but have ridden 9sp 105, 10sp Dura-Ace, and 2009 Rival.

Right now, there's no point in getting '09 or earlier Force as '09 Rival provides the same functionality. I'm not sure about the new Ultegra.

For 6600 Ultegra, pricing is good. Either way you'll be fine. Keep in mind that the only components which need to match (Shimano vs. SRAM) is the rear derailleur and the shifters. For example, I run an Ultegra crank on my Rival setup.

It might help to be more specific: Ultegra 6600 or Ultegra 6700? 2009 Force or 2010 Force? In general, I prefer SRAM to Shimano. I like the ergonomics of the SRAM levers and the ultra-fast shifts, but will admit that it isn't nearly as smooth and quiet as Shimano.

I prefer Shimano shifting and the new 6700 ergonomics to Sram shifting and ergos but would take the Force Cranks over the Ultegra to save some weight.

2009 ultegra sl vs. 2010 sram force

I would get the whole 2009 ultegra comp set for $750 or $800 and slap it on a caad9 frame, or buying a 2010 caad9-4
