Seat post scratching

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Seat post scratching

Probably an easy question but I don't know anyone on hand to ask, and you guys are the experts . My scattante r330 came shipped online from Performance Bike, so I put all the necessary things together myself then sent it to the LBS to have it checked up on, brakes tuned and generally all the stuff I didn't know how to do (yet.. I want to learn).

But since I've had it, I've tried several saddles on it (unsure of what worked best for me, finally got it now though!), and took the seat post out several times (carbon), it's been getting scratched to hell a lot. It had a black matte finish and the scratches which are lengthy and numerous are revealing silver underneath. There's no lube or anything.. should this be greased in any way? I don't want to keep scratching it just by simply taking it out, which feels kind of rough.

There's a debate on whether you should lube carbon posts or not, but I know plenty of people (myself included) who have had no problems after lubing theirs. Even with the lube, though, some scratching and finish rubbing is normal. You can clearly see how much I have raised my saddle (little by little) over the past few months.

edit: If you have long scratches, check to see if there are any burs in yor frame.

Ok thanks, will check. Some of them seem pretty long to me, I felt like I was doing something wrong. If nothing shows up I'll try lubing it lightly to see if that helps. It's not a huge deal but I'd like to keep it all looking nice and clean

If you want it to look nice, buy a cheap post until you get your fit dialed in, then take measurements and put your purty carbon one back on.
