Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dura Ace 7800 with SRAM Rival Groupset Possible?

Hi everyone

I recently acquired a SRAM equipped Road Bike but the cassette provided is a 12-25 Rival cassette; I have a spare Dura Ace 7800 12-23 that I would like to use instead because of the gearing; will I have any problems running this cassete with my groupset? Should I replace the chain with a Dura Ace 10-spd chain or will the SRAM chain that came with the groupset work? I don't want to deal with noises coming from my rear wheel when I shift.

Also, will I have to adjust the RD due to the change in cassette sizing?

Thanks for all your help!

I run a SRAM chain with an Ultegra cassette with no problem. Can't see as how it wouldn't work the other way around. You may have to shorten the chain though.

No worries. They are interchangable. No need to change anything.

You shouldn't need any rd adjustments but you never know. If you do it will only be slight adjustments with the cable tension.

so I installed the 12-23 Dura Ace cassette onto my SRAM equipped bike, but find that there is some noise coming from the back on some of the gears. Should I change the chain to a Dura Ace chain or do you think I just need to adjust the rear derailleur? Does anyone have a link or how to instructions for adjusting the rear derailleur or should I just take it to my LBS?

Thanks!
