Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Open Pro on Bicycle Wheel Warehouse

OK I found some wheels on BWW, the Mavic Open Pro with Ultegra hubs. Searches on this site reveals some pretty positive opinions about these. But I have found ,what appears to me, the same wheelset on BWW at two different prices:

for $195 :

https://www.bicyclewheelwarehouse.com...d&productId=42

for $273 :

https://www.bicyclewheelwarehouse.com...d&productId=47

On the second one, using the drop down menus to select the same specs as the first one, the price is $78 more.....now I have been known to get confused before, so please straighten me out if I've missed something obvious. Thanks...

The first has Ultegra hubs and the second Dura-Ace.

Um, yeah but like I said on the second one, if I use the drop down menus to select the same specs (Ultegra hubs) as the first one the price is $78 more ...

I have Open Pros with Ultegra hubs on my Cervelo Powertap wheels and they are bombproof. I have almost 20,000 miles on them and they have never even needed to be trued. Awesome wheels for training.

i got the $195 ones with alloy nipples. great buy. the rims came kinda oily but they were easy enough to clean up. the supplied rim tape sucks but that is expected. otherwise, the build quality is good (true within 1/2 mm) and so far, after about 400 miles, they are great. I think im still breaking in the seals on the rear hub though. anyhow, pick the cheaper one.

I bought the $195 set and really like them so far. I've only put a 1,000 miles on them but I'm 250 and they have stayed true. I agree with previous post the time tape absolutely sucks, just throw it out and get Velox.

Thanks for the input. I'm currently riding on the stock shimano r500's that came on my bike, the low spoke count makes me a little nervous, about a couple hundred miles in and so far so good. Looking at a wheelset for christmas and I think the Open Pros will do nicely. I started this year at 240#'s and I'm down to 200#'s , got the new bike a few weeks ago for my b-day, and not sure how the r500's will hold up.
