Bikepedia states that the MSRP was $3700. I see that you highlighted 2 upgrades. I'm not sure how much those upgrades are worth to you. In my mind, if I were going to pay $4500 for a bike, I'd like the luxury of owning a new bike. I don't deal with anything that pricey, so I'll let somebody else chime in on how much it's worth. You should tell us your location, because used bike prices can vary significantly from location to location.
If you're going to spend $4500 on a Madone 5.5, you should buy this one: EBAY

Maybe I'm crazy but I couldn't imagine paying that kind of money without a frame warranty.
I'm all about buying used bikes but when you're in that price range, the bike would have to be made out of unobtanium to be worth considering.

Good points. I think the bike is priced higher mainly due to the wheelset. I think the Aeolus 5.0's retail somewhere around $2,700. Oh, I also failed to mention it also has a RotorSABB ceramic bottom bracket; however, that would not increase the price much.

Should be your bible when buying anything on ebay. I wish I knew of it when I made my first bike purchase off ebay....granted, I still did save almost $1000, but I am sure I could have found better deals out there.
I haven't checked, but I am sure the wheel set is on the website. Simple addition, and seeing what other deals are out there will give you a good answer.
Use your own judgment on seeing if a bike is a good deal or not. Also, when I was really new, I did a LOT of research. Go to bike shops, see what components are on each model, see what price they are offering. If the deal isn't that great, but it is a nice bike that you want it probably isn't worth it due to shipping charges.
