Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2010 CAAD9 4 or Cervelo S1

I have been pondering upon getting another bike. A bike that will survive harsh weathers such as rain and snow. I have a steel bike right now and its very nice but i don't want the salty weather conditions in the winter ruin it. I have always like the Cervelo design on their bikes but i don't have the funds to buy a good carbon bike, so i've decided on aluminium. The 2010 CAAD9 4 seems to be a great deal at $1799 for 2010 sram force cranks with everything else rival except the brake calipers. It is also available in bb30 although im not 100% sure. The cervelo have the ultegra group. They both seem like nice bikes but i can't decide on which one. Any pros and cons about either bikes would be welcomed. Thank you for taking your time to read my post.

Ooooo... This is like civil war of bikeforums between north Cannondale and south Cervelo.
Go for caad9 4.

this is going to get ugly. both are great bikes, after previously owning a CAAD9 I would go with the Cervelo

Ride them both and decide which you like riding more. I rode the S1 when I was testing bikes recently. The Ultegra set is very nice, and the S1 is very live and zippy. Just wasn't the right bike for me. Spent a quarter less, and got something nice that suits me better as a rider. Not as stiff as the Cervelo, but I am neither big nor a sprinter (my absolute power output is not that great, though my relative power is quite good); I am not the type of rider that would benefit most from the bike's strengths.

Cannondale told me via email that all the CAAD 9-5's are bb30. I would assume the same holds for the CAAD9-4.

Shouldn't it be North Cervelo (Canada) against South Cannondale (America)

Personally, I own a Cannondale but being a Canadian I would say Cervelo Canada won in the 1812 war, and will win this battle as well

Yes, as has been explained here in the CAAD9-4 thread, it is BB30, but it doesn't come with a BB30 crank. IIRC, it's got a non-BB30 SRAM Force crank with an adapter sleeve to fit the BB30 frame.

Also consider the Neuvation F100; almost identical to the Soloist team, the S1, but much cheaper and you can get it with SRAM.

It is a 2010 sram force BB30 crank. I bought the bike and it has the bb30 crank. cannondales website says that caad9-4 has the bb30 crank

Wow, I don't think I want to know what you ride for your nice bike.

doesnt the s1 come stock with ultegra sl? (not that is much different)

but the s1 also comes in a frameset. if you built it up yourself, you can get rival for like $650 and the frameset for ~$1200 (with fork, headset, and seatpost), then all you need is saddle, stem, bars, and wheels, all of which are personal things and which i would replace off the CAAD9 anyways.

^^ lighter and stiffer.

the caad9 frame has a bb30 bottom bracket shell and the caad9-4 bike comes with with a force BB30 crankset.

just as an idea, my '07 specialized S-works SL is over half a pound lighter than my gf's '08 Tarmac SL. they're nearly identically spec'd except for mine built with bb30 and hers isn't. i'm sure that's part of the difference.

The 2010 S1 will be available in a SRAM Force option as well.
