Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kestrel EVOKE SL with SRAM Rival - Good Deal?

OK, I admit I got the title and ideas from https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycling/580114-kestrel-rt800-sram-red-good-deal.html

But I really think I only need rival on my first road bike

So is the Evoke SL for $1695 the best deal I can get on CF bike with Rival
Here is Evoke SL https://www.kestrelbicycles.com/Road/EvokeSL.aspx

Or is this bike for $300 less a better deal? https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...p_cf_rival.htm

Or is there a better deal out there?

Thanks for the help

I think both of those seem like pretty good deals....I opted for the Pedal Force CG1 with 2010 Force, and I'll build the wheels myself....works out to a couple hundred more, but I get to pick the bars, stem, saddle, wheels, and there is also Force over the Rival....

Thanks; I found PedalForce with google
looks like $1550 for frame and group
So I would need wheels, tires, tubes, bars, stem, post, and saddle
would I also need to buy cables; I wonder

I could use one of my MTB seats and some pedals

I am guessing this might be $500 or a bit less
so at $2000 would this be a better bike than Evoke SL at $1695
or better than Motobecane le champion cf at $1399??

I guess this depends on how much better the Force is over Rival
as I do not think the Pedal Force frame would be any better than the Kestrel or Motobecane

Are these my best 3 options?

Another option is Neuvation bicycles (neuvationcycling.com ). For about the same money, $1595 with Rival, you get to select options such as gearing, stem size, crank size and gearing etc and get a killer set of wheels and excellent personal customer service. I suggest giving them a look-see as well...

For me, yes. Lets me pick the crankset (rather not have compact), pick stem length (I go longer than standard), pick my own saddle and build myself some better wheels.

I'm using the rationale that replacing those items on either of your other two options would run at least a few hundred, so I'd be looking at more or less the same total cost for either the Evoke or the PF.

That explanation seems to work at my house.

Thank you
I found Neuvation with google
must admit they seem like a better deal than Trek or Speciailized, but I do not find the frame as nice looking as the Motobecane, Trek, or Specialized. The options are nice; but there does not seem to be options to get Name Brand wheels and components like bars, stem, post, saddle.

I like the fact that Speciailized, Motobecane, and Kestel have Mavic wheels. For a mountain bike guy the Bontrager on the Trek is kinda a turn off {maybe on road that is different}.

Good news is - there seems to be a lot of CF bikes with Rival under $1700 -- I would appreciate being pointed to any others.
