Ride Report: My Son's First Ride.
Time:7:30 AM
Location:Northern Tainan County, Taiwan.
Distance: 1.2km
My son is 2 1/2 and we went for our first ride together this morning. He has a blue 2-wheeler with training wheels and I was in my kit on my way out for a ride.
We went all the way around the block and down to the end of the road, turned left and went to the end of that road.
Then we went back.
The long start-finish straight was slightly up-hill, into the wind and the sun. We chased another boy, maybe 7, on his bike but we couldn't reel him in.
All in all it was a good ride with favourable weather.
A splendid time was had by all.

Lucky dad...that memory will last forever...I remember when my kids first learned...they are 24 and 22 now...I miss when they were little and lived at home.

That's impressive! My son just turned two so this will be a little target for him to aim for. I just have to figure out where to get him a bike that'll fit.

As it is we found several 2-wheelers that fit him fine.
It took him a bit to figure out the left foot then right foot thing but now he tearasses around just fine.
Good luck finding a bike and I hope your son loves riding with daddy as much as mine does.

Did you know that the original Big-Wheel is back in production? They are made in the US and I had to 'import' one (through a friend).
It is just a tad too big for my son right now but I figure in 6 months nowhere will be safe from his power-slide.

Looks like he is in FRONT!
Doesn't that mean that he dropped the old man**********?
Oh, and I see he's got a Super deluxe Dashboard on his bars - time to load it up!

I took my son on his first organized charity ride. He's 11 years old and rode 34 miles in the Heart of Tennessee ride outside of Nashville. He had a small wreck where he skidded through a T intersection in the gravel. Fortunatly he ended up in a field of 8 inch tall unmowed grass. Straightened the handle bar and he said he was good to go. Some decent climbs in this ride as well. Everyone was riding up and talking with him. It was a good father and son day.

Too bad by the time my little guy is 2.5, it'll be the middle of winter. I doubt he can handle a bike right now.
What size is that bike? I see some 12" sizes online but not sure how big they really are in person.

I still vividly remember the first time I rode my bike without training wheels (a couple months ago :-)
Seriously, probably the most vivid memory of my very early years - as a 4yo. My Dad teaching me how to balance the bike and ride a "2" wheeler.
Some day I hope to do the same thing.
Nice story Dop
