Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Force vs. Rival

I have a chance to get a rival group on a new bike and could get Force shifters and rear derailleur provided I sell off the Rival shifters and rear derailleur (because I'd have to put up the capital for the Force stuff first). Is it worth it to do this or would it just be weight savings mostly?

I've ridden both in test rides and it feels like Force is smoother, but I'm just not sure enough. So it's mostly a question if the extra hassle is worth it.

My impression is that they really aren't that different except that the Force has some carbon bling (lighter).

If it's 2010 Force then the answer is yes. If it's 2009 Force, then the gain is relatively small. Both of these compared to 2009 Rival.
