Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cycling jerseys for people with short torso

I stand 5'6 and I have a relatively short torso (relatively long legs) and I'm having a hard time finding a jersey that fits me such that I can crouch without creasing the zippers. Anyone else in the same boat and have recommendations on jersey brand/model/size? Or did you just buy one that fits width-size and have a tailor shorten the jersey and zipper? I'm leaning toward the latter but I've never had experience with tailors shortening polyester/spandex cloths.

I have a full zip, race-fit jersey by Pearl Izumi that is pretty short, short enough that you can't wear it unless you've got bibs underneath (shorts don't cut it). I don't remember what it's called though.

I used to order mediums for my 5'7" frame but went to S size due to jersey length issue. Castelli and Assos seem best in this size. Rapha is too long.

Quality women size cut jerseys have torsos several inches shorter than the men's.

Castelli stuff runs small in all dimensions. It's probably just what you're looking for if at 5' 6" you're somewhere under 130 pounds.

Castelli Superleggera do run short. I have a short torso too. However, I think just about any jersey that is full zipper will have some creasing when you lean or bend on the bike. That is, unless you are wearing a jersey that barely covers your nipples when you stand up.

Champion Sys race-fit small. I am just under 5'7. Torso is ordinary for my height ( I guess) .

Champ-sys make pretty nice jerseys but their chamois are horrible.

I'm 5'-6.5" tall with an 83cm (32-5/8") cycling inseam. Torsos don't get much shorter. I think my shortest jersey is made by Canari, but I've really never considered a little extra length a big issue.

I'm guessing that the real problem is buying medium sized jerseys rather than small. Those would be huge on me. Cycling jerseys are made to fit tightly and if you don't have the physique for it then excessive length is the penalty with a larger size. I have found some models where a small is really tight even on my 135 lb body, but a medium is just too big. In that case, I pass on that model.

I wear 3/4 zip jerseys and flip the bottom of them under a little, only about an inch. The crease gets absorbed by the fabric portion under the zipper and makes it more comfortable. I have it bad, short torso and wide shoulders. I thought about having jerseys tailored, but am happy with my work around.
