Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Celebrity Chef in Trouble for controversial comments about inflicting terror

Anyone else heard/read about this? James Martin is in trouble after claiming he inflicted "sheer terror" on cyclists. The television presenter, writing in a magazine column, told how he forced a group into a hedge while test-driving a sports car. He described the incident as the "best thing I've ever seen in my rear-view mirror. I expect you all some pretty strong thoughts about this!

There's another thread about it.

I think the guy's making it up, as it sounds like you can hear the wind/tires of the car anyway. He's just using hyperbole to get reactions out of... us.

This is the journalistic equivalent of rednecks in trucks that buzz us.

The whole point is to be aggravating. If you let them get under your skin, you've given them exactly what they wanted.

Wouldn't you say the opportunity to eliminate coasting offsets the other factors here?

That did come to mind. And who could blame him? If the people complaining had seen any of coasting's posts, they'd undoubtedly feel very differently about this.
