Off the bike for 8 Days...
...and I'm losing my mind, actually rode a stationary at the gym yesterday I was so desperate. How I'm going to make it till Oct 5th I don't know.

Raising the Abyss
Multiply that by ~15 and that's how long I've been riding the pine for. The good news *knock on wood* is that I finally bit the bullet/swalllowed my pride and went under the knife for some back surgery. My mind was already semi-lost so, as sucky as time off the bike is, the net effect on my brain isn't much.

I don't even know if this time off is going to help my problem (foot), I've tried everything but time off.
I get so jealous when I see people out on their bikes when I go to do errands.

Why is 10/5 perceived as the day back? Doc's orders or just your own best guess?

That was when I planned on starting my base training, I haven't been able to even go to a Dr. because I might have to change in insurance since I got laid off and I don't want any previous issues on my record unless it's an emergency. I have been talking to a podiatrist I know and he's been helping me try some stuff but nothing has worked. Anywho I think I might go to a spin class and throw down, how lame is this going to get.

ah, understood -- good move. I switched insurance companies (because I thought the previous one sucked), but had to delay the inevitable surgery as I was scared that my new carrier would invoke some god awful pre-existing clause thingy. In the meantime I just had to suck on pain (and occasional painkillers) and lost the entire riding season.
Just following the doc's post-op orders now w/ good luck so far -- that's why I asked about doc's orders.
The good news is that if you have to wait into October or so to be road worthy you'll still have the CA weather.

Just went for my first ride since July 15th.....broken fibula. Only did about 8 miles. Not to bad spinning along but it's still a bit painful to stand. I think the tendons need a bit of work after not moving for 8 wks.
And sometime in that time with no riding, something went wrong with my Cateye. I had cadence, but no speed and hence, no mileage.....felt good to get out again though.

Phew, stay sane and hope your foot gets better.
After my most miles in a summer and the most I've pushed myself, I've been slowing down for a few days, enjoying the fall weather, and appreciating just being out on the bike. Since I ride just for fun, sanity, and exercise, it is always good to just be happy to be out.
I'm guessing most other sports are out? I can substitute basketball or soccer or tennis if I can't ride, but those all involve feet.
I hope my body doesn't start to fall apart soon! I played competitive sports my entire life, plus in college and I ain't getting any younger. Still feeling good, but stories like this scare me!

Pdedes...I think I've read posts where you mentioned being a former top-flight racer and then no riding for years? Have you explained this somewhere? Or, were you "working on some things"? (don't want to get too personal if it is).
I've only been an avid road rider for a few years, but now I can't imagine life without it. I have this small fear something will change and I'll have all this darn cycling stuff, but I doubt it...

I mean this is the best point for this to happen september is a off month for me, just do what i want when I want but I really want to ride lol. Starting in october it's going to be all slow base miles which I guess I could actually accomplish on a spin bike at the gym but I couldn't imagine anything worse. At least this gives me a lot of time to get my core super strong.

8 days off the road bike, but I ride 4 miles to college every day and then do errands.
It still sucks. Tomorrow is my day off school and it should be good for a 40-mile trip.
Recovery food: $5 Pop's Pizza lunch special.
Good day.

You gonna eat that?
I know how you feel! I sprained my back at the end of August. I was off the bike almost two weeks. Boy.... that was a long two weeks!

I'm off for two and maybe three days (really bad cold...can't breathe worth a ****, sore throat, blah, blah) and I'm just jonesin' for a ride. I went out and cleaned the bike tonight, at least I touched it.

Hang in there man. The bike will be waiting when you are ready.
