Seat position is a constant, right?
Whether I am in the drops or have my hands on the hoods, my seat position should be the same, correct?
If I tend to slide forward when I'm holding the hoods, am I losing form, or should I change my seat position?
My seat is dead level, so tilt is not at issue.

If you move your seat BACK, generally you will have less of a tendency to slide forward on the seat. Sounds counterintuitive, but try it, it works.

I have run into the same issue as the OP.
I haven't purchased one yet, but believe using a handlebar with a shorter reach will help. (mimic the length/reach as when you are in the drops)
IMO (and from what I have read) fore/aft seat position should be based on balance and comfort.

I will sometimes slide forward on the saddle to use different muscles. Or slide back for more control on a steep descent. And sometimes I have to slide forward to keep the front wheel on the ground on a steep climb.

Leave your seat it one place . Move your butt position on the seat for varying conditions. Climbing-back, cruising -center, hammering -forward.
