Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Critique my posture- seat and handlebar height OK?

This is my first road bike, and I have no idea what correct posture looks like. Should I adjust my seat and/or handlebars?

Looks good. Make sure your knee is right above the pedal axle. Bend ya' arms a bit when in the drops also.

Good thing you've got your feet pixelated, I almost could recognize you.

Senior members making snarky comments in a n00b thread? Didn't expect that.

Actually, this reminds me of something. I only have 2 fingers on the brake, are you supposed to use your whole hand? Does it matter?

Definitely want to keep the arms loose...straight arms are sometimes indicative of too far of reach and will quickly wear on your body.

I think you might be right about the reach being too far. Should I raise the handlebar?

Bend those elbows, roll forward with your hips.

Looks reasonable.

1-2 fingers on brake levers is fine.

The angle of your wrist looks really uncomfortable, especially with that gigantic watch on.
Higher stem might be nice. 90 degree stem, perhaps.

Are you really gonna ride that thing in sandals? All fit assessments should be made while you wear what you'll usually wear when you ride.

What's a stem and how do I make it 90 degrees?

Yes, they're special biking sandals. State of the art. Look, I didn't dress up in all my gear, only to take it off, just to take a pic for posture evaluation. It's irrelevant, as is my face.

Why the hell do you come to a forum and ask a question then pretend you know the answer better than the people you are asking? Sandals are lower than shoes+cleats, and you can't see your leg angle well through the long baggy pants, which compounds the issue.

Since you don't know what a stem is, can I assume that you're not wearing SPD sandals, but merely being a smart-ass?

Face is mostly irrelevant, although a better view of neck angle would be nice. All bike contact points are highly relevant. Feet, butt, hands.

Hold on, I never claimed to know the answer to the question. I just made an assumption about what is and isn't relevant to giving a good answer. And I might have been wrong, as you guys are saying it would have been better to wear less baggy clothes. We've all made incorrect assumptions, so let's move on and not get worked up.

Who do you mean by 'we'?

and by that I'm just trying to add some humor before we all know where this thread goes.

It is so blurry and with the baggy pants it is hard to say but I think that the bike looks too big.

Are you familiar with electrical conduit benders?

You'll want this Park Tools PSB-121 (similar to electrical bender but made for bike stems). Apply even force when you bend your stem.
