Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

rebuild broken rival shifter?

It looks like I have broken my front SRAM rival shifter somehow and was wondering if these things are rebuild-able before I go out and buy new. Basically what's it's doing is it won't click into the larger chainring. It will pull the cable and move the derailleur but as soon as I release the shifter the cable tension releases and it moves back to the smaller ring. Has anyone else seen this problem and is it fixable?

They are theoretically rebuildable but I've never heard of it actually being done. When I went to find out about fixing my original Force lever, they just replaced it.

Make sure it isn't the limit screw on your front derailleur. It could be set in too far and letting the chain climb onto the big ring but it isn't going far enough to let the shifter indexing kick in.

+1.....undo your limit screw enough to make sure before you call the shifter broken.
