Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Right calf strain with cleats.

I took my friends 54cm frame(clipless) on a 20 mile trip with an easy pace of 20mph and occasionally hitting 15 to talk with my friends. After I went to bed, I woke up with a painful calf strain. Its relatively high up in my calf, 4-3 inches down from my knee. A couple weeks before this incident, I cramped my left calf right behind the knee. I figured it was because I was training too hard. Also another piece of information, my friends bike is exactly the same frame size, but I did not adjust the fore aft position, handlebars, or cleat position. Only how high I left the seat. Thanks everyone for helping me!

how did your calves feel when riding

could potentially be your cleat is too far forward and you're using too much calf

there was a thread here about a week ago about cleat positioning behind the ball of the foot based on and article in bicycling magazine

i didn't feel like there was any pain. Even when i stepped off the bike and loitered around with my friends, no pain. And the cleat was most likely the problem. Too big of a shoe, and was not tuned to my foot
