Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's a nice build...
...especially that you actually put the frame together. Do you have a better picture? The link to your thread didn't work. Thanks.

First build was the Salsa...I built it with Ultegra 6500 first then converted to Campy Record.

I felt the Salsa was too flexible so I tried the Specialized Roubaix Comp (2006), stripped it down and rebuilt it with the Record from the Salsa.

Then I received my Merckx Corsa 0.1 as a gift so I sold the Roubaix which I was feeling was (while better than the Salsa) still too soft in the rear end for what I preferred. Stripped the Roubaix and put the record onto the Merckx. It has gone through several changes and the last photo is how it sits today...still in my stable.

I couldn't bring myself to ride the Merckx in the rain so I picked up a Bottecchia frame as a rain bike and built it up with 2006 Centaur.

Then I couldn't help myself when Patrick did the Neo Exile group buy so I got that frameset, sold the Bottecchia and got 2009 Centaur Carbon for the Neo. Also picked up the Kinlin rims and Formula hubs from their respective group buys to build the wheels. Love this bike, fits great, rides great, and is nice and light.

Not shown is my IRO fixed gear which I have never photographed for some reason...here is the pile of parts that became that bike.

And here is my wife's frame...don't have a photo of this one finished either but it is built up with 2009 Veloce Ultrashift stuff.

Lynskey R320, campy chorus/record, yada yada - the only bike I've got right now

Cervelo R3 started with full DA - (sold)

Cervelo R3-SL campy chorus/record - (sold)

Cervelo SLT "boneshaker" - Ultegra (sold)

Trek XO-1 - Dura Ace, started w/ 105 9spd - (sold)

I built up an IRO fixed gear which was too small, and then an IRO Rob Roy single speed cross bike which just felt too big... both sold as well.

Hi Ritterview,

Are you going to race that bike here?

A clubmate built up a Dragongfly several years ago. He didn't go quite as far as you but regardless, you have a beautiful tandem there.

Here's one, a used Litech Mg frame I bought off a guy in SLC. Along with my BMC, it's tied for my favorite ride.

Here's my Torelli. Bought the frame for $225.00 and built her up from there.

Specialized E5, my bomb-proof crit bike.

I've got a few more that I have built (BMC Race Master, Tommaso Super Leggera Ti, a steel SS beast and an aluminum SS mountain bike frame commuter and others) from frames I bought new or used on eBay. Some I ride for a while and sell. Others I give to friends who could use a good bike but can't afford one. It's a hobby and an addiction, keeps me out of trouble and forces me to ride a lot to justify all the money spent.

Yea, I know, I'm carried away with posting my builds. Could not resist showing off the BMC. Bought the frame from Wiggle, the SRAM Red group from Chain Reaction, the wheels from eBay and the rest of the parts were either lying about my shop or I swiped them from other builds. Sweet riding machine.

orbea starship. budget race build, got the frame cheap off serotta forum and went from there

gruppo: campy veloce, cheap from the uk. like campy. no functional reason to do centaur.

wheelset: used from this forum, wanted something deeper, but strong enough to train and race on.

cockpit: deda newton stem and bars, used from serotta forums, seatpost from the uk as well, for cheap

saddle: nashbar race. light, white, got it for under 10 bucks from the returns section of nashbar.

cages: bell cf from walmart. light, strong, cheap

tires: rubino pro II. cheap, durable, grippy enough not to kill me in a crit. white.

great merckx and I know I have commented on it before, however a great blend with the headset/stem and adapter.

I bought a nitto adapter to put my steel fork back on my waterford but not as clean looking as yours,
