Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

what is wrong with Kestrel road bikes?

i searched, and read the Kestrel threads. i'm confused because people seem very positive about them, but i haven't heard of people riding them.

https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...l/rt800_09.htm

A friend of mine saw the web page open on my computer and was shocked at the price vs. specs. apparently Kestrel is well known in the tri bike market?
I don't want to sound ignorant, but dura-ace 7900 and all carbon. most bikes like that seem to be way north of $3000. (Cervelo R3, has an MSRP of $5900).
so why isn't everyone riding them?

side note, i didn't know but apparently a Kestrel is a type of bird, like a falcon. so that's pretty bada$$.

200/300 series

I rode a 200SC from 1991 to about 2000 and a 300EMS since then and love the bikes. Sometime in the late 90's they changed stopped making the one piece frame and starting making them overseas. For some reason they never really caught on in the road market.

Kestrel reminds in regards to bikes reminds me of Vector in regards to cars. Man were they cool to look at and then they just kind of faded away. Kestrel moved production to Japan and those bikes were kind of iffy and then to Taiwan (those are plenty fine), and changed owners a bunch. They are now owned by ASI (the same people who own Fuji) and they actually seem to be trying to revive the brand and actually have some neat looking stuff. The 2010 Kestrel 4000 LTD with Di2 and all brings back that Vector supercar feel I use to remember so im all for whats going on over at the Kestrel camp.

Disclaimer: My first modern road bike is a 2008 Kestrel Talon SL and I really like it.
