Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tire/Tube Question...

I have been looking around for the answer to my question around these forums, but couldn't find it. Soi anyways...I am switching out my tires from 700c-25 to 23. I currently have 25-32 tubes on my bike.

Would I be able to use my existing 25c tubes in my 23c tires?

I have local bike shop selling 20c tubes for cheap. Would I be able to use 20c tubes in 23c tires? Will it easily explode??

Thanks!

I think you can go either way. I just used 23-25 tubes in a 28 hybrid, holding air fine... 3 mths. & running. The box said to 28, the tube was mark 25 MAX. Go 20

There's a chance the 25-32 tubes will fold over inside the smaller tires, causing pinch flats. I've never heard of a 20c tube. If you meant 20mm, there should be a range it goes up to but it will most likely fit a 23mm tire. I'm weary of any cheap tube though. Every cheap tube I ever tried leaked or had a bad valve.

Generally, smaller tubes will work in slightly larger tyres; not so good to go the other way. Tubes are cheap though. Buy the correct size.

There are theoretical reasons why you should match tubes to tires, but as a practical matter, I've bought only two sizes of tubes for years. I've used 700x25s in all the road bikes, in tires from 23 to 41mm, and 26x1.5 in all the mountain bike tires, 1.4 to 2.3. Never had a problem.

Ditto. Any suggestions on good tubes? Thanks
