Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jack Kane?? worth the $$$$?

hey all i am looking for my 1st road bike and have come across a Jack Kane bike that is a couple years old with veloce components, aluminum frame, carbon fork/seatstays, custom paint. the guy said he got it for $1100(which seems cheap) and will sell it for half. ideas? opinions?

Never heard of Jack Kane so it may be tremendous or just mundane.

1100 for a Veloce bike is a decent deal when new. Used? Not unbelievable in my view.

Jack's Bikes

This is a builder/dealer in Jacksonville, NC. He builds the frames and has some very good paint jobs. He also sponsors some race teams and has a good following. I bought my cannondale there.

Cool. A custom frame is always nice but it wasn't custom made for the 2nd buyer.

If it fits it's probably a good deal.

His son used to race on our team, and had a couple of his dad's bikes. The frames are truly works of art - I'd be afraid to ride one in a group.

Info on Jack Kane

If you can get the bike for 500 or so that would be a good buy, maybe steal. You could get the serial number and call Jack at 910-455-1011 just to make sure it is not hot. There web site is, www.thebicycle.com

Kane has a site for his bikes https://www.kanebikes.com/. He painted my Ron Cooper a couple of years ago. Veloce 10 speed is nice.

His paint jobs are sick. I've never ridden one of his frames though, so I can't comment on those. DSP races on them though, so they're probably just fine.

I actually went to his shop when I was looking for a bike. They build the frames right up there in the shop in front of everyone. I think they actually expanded the shop recently. I talked with his wife, or the woman in charge, and she told me how everyone that works there is sent to 'school' and yadda yadda yadda. They know their stuff. Then she continued on by telling me unless I bought a carbon framed bike from their shop I would never be good enough to ride with a group and that aluminum was to slow. So I walked out and haven't returned since.

I hate to hear that. Kane was/is on my short list for my next race rig. They still do an awesome job with their paint.

The frames don't look like Leader frames to my eye, and I ride one.
