Vacation, Crete
Hi guys, maybe can you help me?
I am going for a small vacation to Hersonissos, Crete. It's only for a week and i won't take my bicycle with me, but i wanted to rent it there and ride around for a couple of days. So, the questions:
Maybe anyone knows good places to rent a bicycle there? Not necessarily road bike, mtb will be ok.
I'll be also glad to see comments about things anyone Must do when coming to Crete, although i am not really a sightseeing person.

I was in Crete this past July. It is not the most bike friendly. 2 lane roads are actually 5 lanes.
Shoulder = slow lane, Lane = through traffic, Median Lines = passing lane; mirror that to both sides of the road.
You can definitely ride, but the Cretan drivers drive very aggressively.
The middle of the island is mostly small villages and you will not find what you would think of as a bike shop if you find one at all. Being in the center of the island will make it tough trying to get to the outlying cities. The island more mountaines and towns are fairly spread out.
Crete is a beautiful place to go. I highly suggest seeing the beaches on the southern part of the island (Suda Beach was beautiful) and I really enjoyed walking through the city of Rethymno (Reth-ing-non). The 16 century fortress overlooking the city is amazing. Old town Chania (Han-ya) is also a beautiful place to walk around if you can get to the old town district. Finding parking is a pain and traffic is terrible but once you are there the old town area is amazing. It looks like you will be near Iraklio which is close to the Minoan runes which are pretty cool as well.
Good luck and have a great trip.
