Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tubeless conversion of standard tyres

G'day

I have recently converted my MTB tyres by the ghetto method and could not be happier. I understand the issue of greater pressure in a road tyre regarding roll off. I have Campag Scirocco wheels which are notoriously large. I use Conti GP4000 tyres which are notoriously small. Anyone using this combination will no doubt concur that mounting the tyre, particularly for the first time can be an eye popping experience.

I'm having trouble believing that these tyres will stretch and roll off, but no matter where I look or search I can't seem to find any old threads about it. Has anyone tried this or know anyone who has? How did it go?

Thanks.

Just buy the tubeless tires; it's not worth your life to save $100. I can't imagine I'd even enjoy a ride wondering if the tire is going to blow off in the middle of a corner.
