Going very cheap, Nashbar or can I do better for the money?
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I want to get a bike just for riding to school, and around town for various reasons, as my bike right now is too small, and my brother would like to ride it since it seems to fit him pretty well.
It seems like on Craigslist everyone wants 300 dollars for their 30 year old beaten up looking bikes.
I thought about getting those 200 some dollar bikes like that dawes stuff on ebay or the GMC stuff but they don't seem very...well trustworthy. I've had my share of bad experiences with Walmart and Target bikes such as bottom bracket bearings giving out after half a year.
I noticed the Nashbar road bike can be had for around 400 with a coupon, and similarly the Fuji Newest 3.0 (4.0 doesn't seem to exist at Performance although Fuji does list it) on Performance can also be bought for around that price at certain times. Would it be a good idea to go for one of these, or is it likely I can get something a lot better off Craigslist if I'm patient? Thanks.

I just bought the nashbar aluc, haven't road it yet, but it looks beautiful. And it doesnt seem to be too cheap of quality. I do know that the frames are similar to those of BikesDirect.com though. I got it for $100 Ive read quite a few reviews and most seem to like it. I probably dont plan on keeping it long term but it was just something to build the rest of my bike around and will possibly swap it out next year.

Hmmm I'm not sure what you're referring to here, do you mean something like Schwinn Prelude or GMC Yukon bikes will be fine, or?

OP, maybe consider garage sales and estate sales as well.
