Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There are folks who won't ride without GPS anymore. Is what it is.

Personally, I'm waiting for Automatic CVT. You select the cadence and the bike does everything else.

I really don't find mechanical D.A. lacking in any significant way. And it doesn't need batteries. Or wires. Or wifi.

I dont need my light, my cell or my cycle computer to ride my bicycle. With Di2 you need a battery to ride.

Why does it matter that it's a battery? If you don't have to charge it for thousands of miles, then it's not really relevant that it is electronic rather than mechanical. It's not something you would have to deal with any more frequently than many of the purely mechanical maintence items. Unless there is a failure it's not going to sneak up on you.

I thought I would fix that for you, Pcad.

of course, but the need or lack of need of batteries has nothing to do with riding, no? Why make the battery the symbol? Why not focus on the thousands of dollars to "improve" something that doesn't need improving and doesn't do anything new?

It's like upgrading to a digital clock over an analog to tell time or whatever other analogy you can think of... blah blah blah

I like mechanical drivetrains because they're mechanical. I wear watches with mechanical movements because their mechanical.

Having said this, I took a quick spin on a Di2 bike. It was really nice, and I don't like Shimano. The stuff was way nicer than I wanted it to be.

Wow, what a shock.

Friggin idiots. If they had come out with this crap @ the price they'll probably drop it to now (like half the original price) they'd be selling the stuff like hotcakes. And everybody would want it too.

They are NOT selling it @ current prices. My LBS, 15 miles from Manhattan, with a very high end customer base, has sold ONE, count 'em, ONE set of this stuff @ retail in the 6+ months since they've had it. If they're not selling it then NOBODY is really selling it. Trust me on this.
So in reading between the lines....

How are you liking your Di2, Pcaddy?
