Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Agreed on the "only reason I bought cable". I switch to the basic package during the winter and then back to OLN during the season. If OLN drops the Vuelta, I'll be going to the "winter coverage" just that much sooner. Heck, I have the 8/10 hr DVDs of the '99-02 TdFs ('03 will be added soon). I have plenty to watch

PS When does OLN get the petition? They need adequate time to prepare if they decide to listen to the petition. Waiting until the week before will effectively doom the petition...

PPS Why is Frank not signature #1? He WAS the creator after all

Wow! 10,000 signatures in 7 days. That's good stuff. Let's keep up the good work. If there's anyone you know that hasn't signed it, send them an email. If you belong to other forums, create a thread and post the link. Let's see if we can get another 20,000!

Excellent job so far guys. Definately send a link to every cyclist you know, post to all of the forums you belong to (there's already threads on most of the forums here, the oln forum and roadbikereview.com). Also take the time and send it to any industry contacts you might have. And don't forget the big names too. I've already sent e-mails to Cyclingnews and Pez. At least we can show OLN the viewership they're missing out on.

10758 as of now.

I was watching OLN yesterday and I saw an ad for the X Games or maybe it was the Gravity Games. I forget which. In any case, those games are scheduled for 20-25 September.

I have a hard time believing OLN is going to switch now. Sadly.

Well, it must be gaining momentum. I just signed as number 12351. Will also post to feedback.

I think they overkilled the TDF coverage with all that Roadside Tour and other Olympic-esque-type crap. I used to really look forward to the Olympics. I watched exactly one hour of the Sydney games. After several minutes of up-close-and-personal type bits I realized I hadn't seen any events so I started timing. In that one hour they showed 2 to 3 minutes of events; the rest was fluff. I did not waste any more time on it. I had the same feeling during the TDF. Just give me an hour and a half of racing with Phil, Paul, and Bobke, as they did before last year in the TDF, and I will be a happy man. They have always provided enough color regarding individual riders and the countryside because they know the racers and have raced or covered racing there for up to 30 years, not just regurgitating a script some assistant researched.

Too true. Do you know how much money they could have saved if they just decided not to drag those crazy cutters over to Europe?

I urge everyone to send OLN an email and refer to the petition. Also, send them a letter!!! A real paper letter that will fill their headquarters and can't simply be deleted. The power of paper and a real signature is amazing.

feedback@olntv.com

and

Outdoor Life Network
Two Stamford Plaza

Stamford, CT 06901

Let's keep the momentum up so we can enjoy the Vuelta in three weeks. They can always find a way to fit in the scheduling. Even if it's only one broadcast a day we can tape it.

Cheers,
Sean

After all this, if OLN STILL shoots down the Vuelta, I will cancel my subscription - no questions asked. My guess is that if they are not willing to show the Vuelta, they will not show next year's Giro, and perhaps some (if not all!) of the spring classics. The fisherman probably sent in 1,000,000 e-mails to OLN which prompted the Vuelta situation. It's our job to send in more!

Anywho, if OLN holds their current stance, in the now infamous words of Cartman, "Screw you guys ... I'm going home!"

Commercial slots for the T de F should have been premium and touted as gold for anyone with anything bike related because so many people were tuning in for such a history making event.
It wasn't OLN's marketing department that screwed-up, it was a rather intransigent bicycle industry.
Don't want to hijack this thread, so look at this thread (and at the link referenced in the first post).

https://www.bikeforums.net/general-cycling-discussion/56504-giant-bikes-refuse-support-oln-s-tdf-coverage.html

As an aside, I still have not received a reply from Giant Bicycles. Usually, if you take the time to type up a letter and drop it in the old snail mail, most companies will respond w/ at least the generic "thank you for taking the time to write, blah blah blah..." but apparently GIANT is *not* most companies.

I have just sent OLN an e-mail, letting them know that I and others will concider dropping them from our cable package if they don't show the Vuelta. A bit harsh I know, but I'm sick of seeing bull fighting and fishing every night.
