$600 for shipping??!!!!??!?!?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

$600 for shipping??!!!!??!?!?

So I finally caved in and picked up the Damocles from CC on clearance. Had it sent over to Bongo, my F&F service that I use to get goodies over to my rock-in-the-sea.

The previous time I used it to get a frameset cost me $250 and that is what I was expecting to pay. However, this time, it is $600. Six f*****g hundred bucks for shipping just a frame - no wheels.

Christ. Someone on BF needs to start a bike-forwarding business.

I feel your pain. I often have issues shipping my $4000 bicycles to my private tropical islands in the middle of nowhere.

Why don't you have it shipped somewhere on land, and use picking it up as a partial reason for a trip off the island?

hmm.... Maybe we should start having stuff shipped there, and using picking it up as a partial reason for a trip to the island?

Lol. I wish it was my private island... when I wrote "my", I meant "where I presently live and eke out an existence as a dive bum."

I am. It is still on the other side of the globe, and that's where the big shaft comes in.

Heh, I'm actually trying to find a friend who's willing to bring the bike over in exchange for 7-10 stay, diving, meals on the house and payment for the excess baggage on the bike

If not, I am going to take 26-2's advice here: HTFU and pay for the shipping, and then read EVERY winter cycling thread on BF while gloating a little to myself.

Think of it as the 'you don't ever buy any winter clothing' tax.

What are you doing trying to ride a bike on a tropical island anyway? What are you? Some sort of freakish weirdo?

I'd feel really sorry for your $600 freight estimate except that apparently you're a Flyers fan so screw you... How did they ever let you escape from Philly to a tropical island paradise anyways?

P.S. - Go Rangers!
