Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Lace or not lace my Zipp 404 rim??

A bit pissed right now because I just received a Zipp 404 clincher rim which was described as "no cracks or chips" and "good to ride and race" I won on ebay. Packaging was ok and sent thru Fedex ground. Well on one part of the rim I find this carbon crack and dent on the alloy braking surface.

Should I continue to fight the case or is this rideable? Or laceable for that matter. Will it be able to handle 100kg spoke tension?

Don't lace it or even think of riding it.

I would point out the defect to the seller and ask to return it - "Item not as described".

Problem is that the seller accepts no returns. Maybe paypal will see the issue my way.

The seller has a feedback rating of 1083 and 96.8% rating so I thought I was good.

Still pissed!!

he does not want the junk he sold you returned to him.
looks like he will claim shipping damage.
you need to check his feedback a little closer.

If someone has a lot of sales under their belt and their holding anything less than 98%, you should be concerned. Out of the last 25 feedback comments left, I counted 3 "positive" comments saying the item was not accurately described. Two other "positive" comments complained of slow shipping.

I imagine eBay changed the feedback system so that buyers would feel safer leaving honest feedback. Doesn't appear to be working.

Disregard the "no returns allowed" statement. That only applies to buyer's remorse, incompatibility issues, "I didn't like the item", etc.

When you pay by Paypal, the seller's policies become whatever Paypal's policies are. Many sellers will claim things that contradict Paypal's policies out of ignorance or to deceive the ignorant.

Wow...that rim is in horrible condition. He should not have sold it!!!

Pursue him with all you can..if it doesn't work out with ebay or paypal, I say you take him to small claims!!!

I feel angry for you!!!

Please idenentfy the seller and the transacion so that BF users might avoid this seller in the future. Thanks.

BTW, Paypal will take care of this if you are vigilant about the matter. Even if a seller specifies "no returns", they are subject to returns if the item, when delivered, is not as described. This would seem to be what happened in this transaction of yours.

Sux bro, paypal claim fo sho. Full money back including shipping should be the target. If he wants it back, he can pay for return shipping, otherwise you have a gnarly hoop to make something out of... Like a wall ornament

Achtung! DO NOT RIDE!

I'm guessing that either the guy who sold you it crashed (rim is cracked, dented, and sidewall scraped) or the FedEx truck went off the side of a mountain while trying to deliver you the package and tried to cover it up.

Based on my experience with eBay I recommend the following:
1. Contact the seller and show him your pictures and ask for a refund. Threaten with negative feedback if necessary and tell him/her you'll put in a claim with paypal.
2. If seller refuses refund, submit negative feedback and put in a claim with paypal.

It would appear that the seller is going to try to get a reimbursement for his crashed rim by selling it on ebay and blaming FedEx.

The more I look at it, the more it's obvious that this is a friggin' scam. I'd report it to PayPal/ebay whoever, and say that there's no way that happened in shipping unless the box went through a wood chipper.

Two other people claim that he has sold them damaged zipp's, he claims shipping damage. From the feedback it appears several people have had to contact the police involving his items. Point these things out when you file your claim, he is obviously running a somewhat infrequent scam with damaged wheels.

I'd say there's almost no way to have that happen unless it hit a pothole or curb.

I had a very similar problem on eBay when an electronic item was sent to me DOA. The seller had a no return policy. I had paid on Paypal so I opened a disputed transaction with Paypal. No sooner than I had filed with Paypal the seller changed his mind and decided to take the item back. ALL transactions on are subject to good faith descriptions. The seller must take the item back if the item is not as described. If you paid using Paypal then by all means dispute it.

Do not use that wheel.

The "no returns" policy might just be there to dissuade jerky buyers. I always stipulate no returns, no refunds, especially no shipping refunds EVER, yet actually when a couple times there's been a problem, I've cheerfully and quickly given the buyer a full refund including shipping.
