Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RoadID

Hey all,

Just bought my road ID a little bit ago and they sent me that little coupon thing in the email.

So if anyone on here doesn't have one and is considering getting one. This can get you a $1 off. Nothing spectacular I know, but hey, a bucks a buck.

Coupon - ThanksMatt557695

Here's the site for anyone interested. Its a nice way to not have to deal with taking all this additional stuff with when you ride. And it gives a little peace at mind in case of the worse.

I wear my RoadID 24/7 -- at my age I don't want to forget to put it on!
Laying in the ER waiting for x-rays after getting hit by a car, I glanced down at my wrist and saw the RoadID.
Realizing that I was lucky enough to be conscious and answer the paramedics' questions at the scene, I began reading the info on my ID.
DUH!
I answered the questions WRONG. I forgot about my allergies to a couple of antibiotics.

It's a good thing to wear, especially if you're unconscious... or old.

haha. i have to admit. that would possibly be one of the dumbest thing any biker could ever do.

exactly why i got it man. i might not be old (only 20). but i do a lot of night riding due to my college schedule and naturally that increases danger a bit more. so i wanted something so at least my parents could be contacted asap to discuss medical history ect.

Question about RoadID. Dont those things get just as stinky as helmet straps if you dont wash it from time to time. I've been using military dog tags for years. Cheap as heck and never rust nor absorb smell.

Why wouldn't you wash your roadID from time to time? Its as simple as wearing it in the shower and then wrapping it around the bars of the bike to dry out. Thats like asking if your bibs would start smelling if you didn't wash them.

Got the dogtag road ID, love it, ride in Columbus, often (last year, especially) with my USF jersey on and often while passing OSU while meeting up with friends up on the Olentangy bike path on Saturday mornings. Yeah.... I've got a few comments when riding by tailgaters who are out drinking their beer in the parking lot at 9am.

Classy.

The most common angry yelp? "Hey F**k you Laaance!" The most unsual one? "Hey!! Dem's Per-doo colours!!!" yelled rather angrily as I navigated through a crowd trying to get into the stadium last year. No clue what chicken has to do with it.

On a side note.... Went to my first Buckeye game after 5+ years here about 2 weeks back, the one against the Badgers. Pretty fun, but the CONSTANT SPELLING OF O-H-I-O FOR EVERY LITTLE THING is a bit freaky, gives you a fascist-rally kinda feel. Creeped me out a bit.

I have the neoprene leg RoadID. It never stinks and can't absorb anything. If It gets dirty, some hot water and soap take care of it easily.

+1 I rarely take off my RoadID. I firmly believe I'll buy it in the car long before I'll buy it on the bike...so I need it pretty much everywhere.

Also easily ripped off in a high-speed crash.

I bought my first one years ago and wear it on my wrist when riding ALWAYS. All it has is info like home and phone for wife. A couple+ years ago, I bought the other that has a subscription to it where it has all your medical info, insurance, doctors names and numbers, etc. I ride at night during the week, and if I am found unconscious I don't want them to know just where to find someone to claim me. I want them to know stuff that is helpful. From doing plenty of trauma, I have seen how many things like the wrist bands and such get ripped off/cut without anyone looking at them. Trauma staff seem to be a bit more careful about jewelry, so I put the one with the info around my neck under the jersey and the base layer. Would be extremely hard for it to get torn or lost there, especially since even when the zipper is down it is still under the base layer.

Frankly, it could be easily overlooked (both) in a real nasty emergency where things are just getting done and questions asked later. In that case, nobody is stopping to log online or call a number to find out my story anyway. Better than nothing when I can't speak though.
