Bikes on a plane..Tire pressure and Co2?
Do you need to deflate the tires for travel by air since the cargo hold is not pressurized. Also, I know that you cannot have Co2 cartridges in the checked luggage, but can you bring them as carry on? I looked at the tsa website, but didn't see anything about it and rules change all the time. Anyone bring cartridges with them as carry on?
Edit: Never mind about the Co2, just saw that it is not allowed.

1) the cargo hold is pressurized the same as the cabin (about 3/4 sea level pressure)
2) the temps in the hold are lower, so the pressure is lower
3) 15 psi change in relative pressure should not blow up your tires anyway

First, the cargo hold IS pressurized, for structural reasons if nothing else. Planes are round tubes, and they hold their shape better if the whole tube is pressurized, not just a part of it.
Beyond that, atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi, so even if you took your bike into out space, it would be like overpressuring your tires by 14.7 psi, which hopefully wouldn't blow anything out.

ENOUGH! I have just about had it with these motherf***kin bikes on this motherfu**kin plane! Everyone strap in!
Also, I've taken bikes all over the country with inflated tubes and no worries. As you discovered, CO2 cannisters aren't allowed tho.
