Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

if I tried to do plios that tall in my garage, I'd either bust my knee (that platform is like waist level!!) or hit my head on the roof. Dude has 12' ceilings in his garage.

PS: How much water does he f**king drink? Or are those jugs of CERA

what kind of weight reigments does everyone have during the winter. i am just getting into the weight phase of my training and am looking for some pointers??

also whats the best weight training for building leg muscle? i am doing squats thinking that that would build the whole leg in the least amount of diff exercises.

also, how does he have such crazy muscles and keep an adequat amount of essential body faat?? there's nowhere to store it!

I can't help but think that he's TOO buff for cycling. Those kind of pecs/abs/delts aren't that big a deal for most folks who lift regularly, but for a top-pro cyclist where every last bit of weight off counts, made me really surprised to see it.

Top triathletes who have to SWIM (upper body!) don't have physiques like that. They could get it, but when you're packing 10-15 lbs of additional muscle, your top-level racing performance may suffer.

Of course, us amateurs can get as buff as we want, and still, we'll be far more limited by our lack of training than our buffness.

I do some crossfit workouts in the mornings after my commute but before the shower (I have a company gym, so I'm very fortunate).

Usually it's something along the lines of

3 x sets:
15 step ups (plios) on each leg with barbells
20 pushups
20 air squats

The whole thing usually takes about 10 minutes and then I stretch and take a shower. It's not a super hardcore workout, but done 2-3 times a week it has definitely improved my leg and core strength. Every two weeks my trainer (co-worker) has me switch up the workouts to keep things fresh- sometimes instead of squats I'll do the rowing machine or whatnot.

There have been larger, successful cyclists. He's not too big. Too old to be the best all-rounder, maybe. But he is a prototypical cyclist, aside from age. Not too heavy to climb, obviously. Not too light to keep up on the flats, either.

It's also largely genetic. Distance runners tend to be light; heavy limbs do decrease the economy of running, as both the obese and very well-muscled tend to swing them in more of an arc, which not only decreases the economy of the motion, but can lead to injuries. Distance runners are also the biggest group who gravitate to tri's. So, of course most of your top finishers are going to be lean. There are plenty of muscular cyclists and swimmers, but large marathon runners are much harder to find. A long stride length is desirable, as well, for running. Long limbs typically corresponds to a certain body type, also.

I also think that picture is a little exaggerated. He's pumped. Even I look really ripped in that state (6'1", 158 lb, all arms and legs) and I normally just look very lean. He has very little body fat, which obviously makes his muscles more defined.

I doubt he's jumping with those. Probably doing some kind of modified squat.

If I'm not mistaken that picture is from last year at this time, I think he's debuffed a bit since then.

I saw it and thought, "How again is that going to help him get around Andy Schleck?"
