Trek 2300, what year is this model?
im planning on getting a trek 2300 from my friend, exact model as this one in the link.
https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/bik/1495861355.html
My question is (well, two), what year is this model? and my last one is, how comparable are the ultegras on this bike to the newer ultegras?
Thanks,
Joel

Looks like a 2002 Trek 2300 in the Starry Night color scheme. Nothing wrong with going 9 speed if the drivetrain doesn't show lots of wear and tear.

Well the old ultegra wins against the old dura ace..
Now it's the other way around.
I say the only difference is that the newer versions are lighter.
(I don't have first hand experience with old ultegra, so don't take my word for it)

I've ridden Ultegra 6400 8 speed and 6500 9 speed, personally I like the 6400 8 speed more, it is my favorite Shimano group. 6500 performs wonderfully as does the rest of the Ultegra series. I like 6400 more due to its look and feel, 6500 and 6600 hurt my hands. So if you like it and it fits I would go for it, 9 speed is wonderful.
