Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it just me?

Went to a LBS this morning to pick up a couple of tubes for a mtn bike i snagged on CL. As usual I checked out the rolling stock and also as usual the bikes seem smaller and cheaper sitting in the showroom, almost toyish. The shop carries Felt, Scott, and Litespeed.

since I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, I guess it must be just you.

Smaller and cheaper than what? Than the same bikes on the road? I think it's just you.

they don't have small enough bicycles in my opinion. It's mostly 54cm-60cm at my shop. The prices don't seem that cheap...

Is it too early to declare fail, or should I wait for the OP to say more stupid stuff?

are you trying to say they had kids bikes and beginers bikes on display? I noticed that about three weeks ago at my shop. it is christmas after all. chances are they will sell 3 or 4 kids or entry level bike for ever bicycle you deem to be worthy of carring your extra large cranium around on.

Bikes are often made out of this new material. It's called carbon fiber. It's basically plastic, but way more awesome. Don't mistake them for toys, they build planes out of it now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_787

CF is passe'. My new bike is going to be hand crafted out of unobtanium, and the BB is going to be lubed with QuakerState Synthetic 0W20. With that and some 1300 gm wheels I will loose 10 lbs every time I get on the bike. I won't be any faster, but I will be thinner on the bike.

What were we discussing, again?

Know all about it. Even own a CF Roubaix. The open space or high ceiling could effect my perspective. Could just be garden variety delusion though.

I don't think that they make bikes small enough. I want one that I can carry around in my pocket, and do tricks with at the bar. You know, ride it through the guy's scotch next to me, that sort of thing.

I want a bike like the old thumb bikes, but with an 11-speed rear cluster.

I kinda know what he's talking about. When you have your own CF bike, custom finished for you, it looks like the perfect bike. You also know what you just spent on it. When you see an entire rack of the same bikes all in a line they look mass produced and can't possibly be anything good or expensive. In your mind it's the same set up of bikes as at TrU and wallyworld.

Zacster has a point. 60 bikes all pushed together on the floor, with 60 more above them, and the same on the other side, makes them all look the same - plain - and since they all have the seats all the way down they do look short.

The bikes that always catch my eye are the beach cruiser comfort bikes with the baskets and bells. For some reason they always set them out in the middle where you have to walk past them, and they look "beefy" to say the least.

Well, then. It isn't just you. It is you and exRunner.

Man, I'm glad we got this sorted out.
