Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

09 Felt F3 or 10 Felt F5 Team?

i'm looking at Felt F-series bikes.
i was thinking about the 2010 Felt F5, which has shimano 105.

my favorite bike store has an '09 F3 SL for the same price as the '10 F5.
seems like kind of a no brainer to go with the 09 provided it wasn't a demo bike.

but...the guy at the store said (over the phone) that it's a SRAM Mix; on felt's site it says the bike is 100% SRAM Red.
https://2009.feltracing.com/09-catalo.../09-f3-sl.aspx

sounds a little fishy. would they take a complete bike and mix down the components before selling it?

Assuming it IS an 09 F3 with less than Red, or some mix of Red and lower components, would you still take it over the 2010 bike with 105?

I don't have any experience with SRAM but I've read reviews and heard it's great. I'm all about alternatives to big brands when it makes sense.

I have just purchased a Felt F4 SL (2009) with a full Ultegra 6600 SL group on ebay.

PM me if you are interested, and I will forward the store information.

ok, i actually found the bike on the LBS's flickr page.

https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2752/...e0fae666_o.jpg

on the 2009 version of the Felt site, it lists the F3 SL as SRAM Red all around.
at this LBS, it's got:
Rival shifters
Force cranks
Rival Rear der
different rims (easton, as opposed to mavic)

so, a lot of stuff different from the factory spec.

the front der is Rival.
is this normal? is it that they're swapping out parts to cheapen the bike, or is Felt giving them some kind of custom build?

and, would you buy the bike with this spec over the 2010 F5 with 105 all around?
