Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

heart Rate Monitor for Cycling and Running

I'm looking at the Polar CS200, it is an upgrade from my current cyclocomputer as it has both cadence and heart rate.

Though I'm looking at getting a HRM for running aswell. Whats everyones advice, what is good for a beginner? Can I somehow combine both???

Chris

Garmin 310XT works fantastic for both. If you add the speed/cadence sensor, you'll have GPS speed/distance, cadence (from sensor plus then also speed for indoor use), plus heart rate. Since it's ANT+ compatible, you can add a power meter down the road as well.

Thanks Audio Jan, though I think that is out of my price range.

If you have no intention of getting a power meter in the future, the Forerunner 305 will do Cadence/HRM as well. I managed to pick mine up for ~$160 at my LBS when I was in the US, so you should be able to find it online even cheaper.

hmm, yea the problem there is that I may get power in the future.... though it may be 2 or more years down the track. I don't want to invest too much at the moment, when the time comes for power then I will grab a really good power one.

So I looked at the forerunner briefly... its around the same price=nice.... are you sure it has cadence? how do you wear it while cycling... on your wrist? does it have a bike mount?

hmmm, the forerunner 305... I looked at a youtuve video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhUYZ1p-KcY&NR=1 and it shows it clipping onto a bike mount and having cadence. Though the ones I find on the net for sale dont have a cadence sensor or bike mount in the box ********************

You have to buy the mount and sensor on their on, they do not come in a kit.

I have a Garmin 305 for running and cycling. I love it. I bought a cadence sensor for my bike and a quick release wrist band/handlebar mount. The setup works well for me.
