New Pedals - Look Keo or Keo 2 Max
I want new pedals for my upcoming build. I am inclined to get the Keo classics (60 bucks on PBK) but am also considering the Keo 2 max - but they cost TWICE as much.
Has anyone used both these pedals? If so, I am interested in hearing your opinion.

I have two sets of the Keo Sprints & one set of the 2 Max. I like all of them, but in the future I'll only be buying the 2 Max. I like them more and they are nicer, in my opinion.
- The metal plate on the pedal makes snapping in a bit nicer and feels more sure when you snap in.
- You can feel that the platform is a bit wider, and this is nice for your feet and gives you a little bit more surface area for contact.
- While my Sprints tend to flip over when moving and trying to clip in (they rotate a bit and makes clipping in more difficult) the 2 Max tend to stay flat (not rotate) which makes clipping in easier.
I'm not going to throw out my Sprints, but if I had the choice between the two of them, I'd go with the 2 Max.
*Never used the Classics, but I did have a friend who is a professional mechanic with years of experience tell me that the Classics are a great pedal and the $/weight savings isn't worth getting the higher-end ones.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you like the Speedplays better than the Looks? I used Speedplay and ultimately ended up giving them to a friend and buying Time RXS Carbons instead. Now that the Time's broke after about a year and a half, I'm looking for new pedals again. I've narrowed it down to the Look Keo Max2 and the Shimano PD-5610. Not to hijack the thread, but I'm curious why you like the Speedplays better (or dislike the Looks more)?

It's ok to hijack my thread, I don't mind.
But I am sticking with Looks.

I use to have speedplays but switched to Keo Sprints. I dont like the fact that the cleats on the speedplays are slippery and require frequent maintenance like lubing and keeping it clean or it wont engage properly. Dont get fooled by its advertised light weight, they dont include the weight of the cleat which is heavy. Which is why I now use Keo Sprints. The cleats have grips underneath them, so no more ice skating, way less maintenance and more time to enjoy the ride. If I were to buy again, I would go for the Keo Max for its wider platform.

I have Keo Classics and like them a lot. In my humble opinion pedals are the least critical of all bike components choices and more money buys you very very little.

Do the Keo's and the Keo 2 Max use the same cleat?

All Keo's (Classic, Sprint, Max, etc...) use the same cleat regardless of model. It's the Keo cleat, marketed with the "teflon" clip in points or the "grip" cleats with the rubber pads on the bottom. I hated the grip cleats that came with my Sprints, they were a pain to clip in with.
All other Look models use the Delta cleat. Do not buy the Delta cleat if you have Keo pedals.
Hope that helps.
