Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Seems that searching turns up a few.

Not worth what he's asking by a long shot though. And most of the "custom" is probably random stuff he added/changed. It's not a 1 off factory build for sure.

(If you were being sarcastic, sorry, I couldn't recognise it, so I took the post seriously).

Be sure tell him that you're looking at other one of a kind bikes. Also make an issue of anything stupid that you can think up (e.g. different spoke counts on the wheels or that the other bikes you're looking at have more spokes but are cheaper, you need to see what color it is so you know if it's worth flying out to take a look at it, etc)

Lots of Shoguns in the 80s, and the parts are very typical and now crap. Not luscious vintage like Campagnolo C-Record or anything.
But hey, give the guy an A for his sales pitch to try and get that much.

My parts bin goes way back, lets see:

Seat post is micro adjust, fluted SR Laprade (have it)
Seat is Kashimax F1 (nope)
Cranks are Sakae SR 170 (have them)
Pedals are KKT PRO VIC II (I did have them and so did everyone else)
Drop bar is Sakae SR Custom Road Champion (have it)
Down Tube Suicide Shifters are Shimano Z401 (had them)
Brake levers are Shimano BL-Z304 (cheap junk)
Triple front chain ring gears 52/42/32 (triple on a Shogun!?, I have the Sakae double).
Front chain ring Derailure is Shimano Elk Head FD-M700 (have one similar)
Rear Derailure is Shimano Elk Head RD-M700 long cage (had one similar)
Front hub is SUZUE Sealed Bearing 3-K (junk)
Front Rim is 36 spoke, 27 X 1 1/4 ARAYA (we all had Araya rims at some point in the 80s)
Rear Hub is a SUZUE Sealed Bearing 3-J with 6 sprocket cassette & laced to a ARAYA 27 X 1 1/4 Rim via 40 spokes (holy overkill)
Brakes are BR-MC70 HK on front and rear (Wait, What? Those are cantilever. Oh this is a touring bike)

He'll get close to what he wants for it. Seems like a decent hard nosed sales person. if he gets 2500 for it he basically more than doubles the "value" of it. Though, how do you put a value on something if it is that nice. The point is not the people have not had all those parts teterider, but possibly all together. Either way still a rip off, let me know if you can get a picture out of the guy.

What side are you on? I'm in Avon Lake.
We should b oth call within 5 minutes of eachother and go to his place at the same time and get into a ludicrous bidding war.

Downtown, West 9th.

That would be funny to get into a bidding war. I think I'm going to post another Shogun on CL claiming to be one of a kind.

We'd each need a tuxedo, a monocle and a curled-end moustache. A very thick Biritsh accent wouldn't hurt either.

Is the last one your mok ad? I was about to say he changed it to 1 of 2? But then I saw the "much more respected than the 83" and figured it was fake.

That last one is a joke though right? Its identical to original posting with a dollar less (at discount) and the 1982 is better than the 1983 line.

Good stuff though.
